The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that only the Ghana Police Service will be permitted to provide security during its presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP explained that the directive was issued by the Presidential Elections Committee and will be strictly enforced at all voting centres, collation points and venues associated with the exercise.
The party made it clear that it will not accept the presence or deployment of any unauthorised security personnel, including non-uniformed or plain-clothed operatives from National Security, at any location connected to the primary.
According to the statement, the NPP has received intelligence suggesting that some elements within National Security intend to deploy unauthorised operatives during the process.
The party warned that any such action would be viewed as an unlawful interference in its internal democratic processes and could undermine or disrupt the conduct of the election.
“The NPP will not hesitate to invoke all lawful remedies available to it to protect the integrity of this process,” the statement said, adding that any unauthorised presence would be challenged and resisted in accordance with the law.
The party expressed confidence in the professionalism and competence of the Ghana Police Service and urged the Police to enforce the directive firmly and without exception.
It further stressed that only clearly identifiable and duly authorised police officers should be deployed, consistent with assurances already received.
The NPP emphasized its commitment to organising a credible, transparent and peaceful presidential primary, emphasising that all security arrangements must strictly comply with the party’s directives to protect the integrity of the exercise.
