Government plans to rename Kotoka International Airport as Accra International Airport – Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga.
The government is preparing to place a bill before Parliament to change the name of the Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport, the Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga has disclosed.
He was speaking during a Parliamentary Leadership media briefing on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
He indicated that this was part of outlined bills and regulations expected to come before the House during the current meeting.
Mr Ayariga said the Minister for Transport will present the bill to seek parliamentary approval for the proposed change.
Under parliamentary procedure, any change to the name of a state facility must be approved by Parliament before it takes legal effect.
Kotoka International Airport serves as Ghana’s main international airport and acts as the primary aviation gateway for passenger travel, cargo operations and diplomatic movements.
A change in name would require amendments to official state records and aviation documents.
Mr Ayariga did not state when the bill would be formally laid before Parliament, but said it forms part of the Transport Ministry’s legislative business for the ongoing session, which started today.
