Ghanaian confuse discipline with suppression, standards with prejudice – Snr Kwame Kusi.

Social media enthusiasts Snr Kwame Kusi in a resent Facebook post has commented the success of Tyrone Marhguy. To him the Ghanaian attitude of killing talent at an early age is disheartening, claiming to be shaping character/s.
He wrote;
“This country er… hmm”.
Notice how “Tyrone Marhguy, a former student of Achimota School” now rolls off every headline so smoothly. The same institution that almost clipped his wings because of dreadlocks now enjoys the shine of his success. We love attaching ourselves to victory after trying our best to block the journey.
That’s how we do it here, confuse discipline with suppression, standards with prejudice. We claim to be shaping character, yet we keep breaking spirits. Young men and women are told, subtly and loudly, that their dreams must first pass a beauty contest, a haircut test, a conformity exam. Before talent. Before intellect. Before potential.
And the painful irony? When they finally break through, by their own means (and Nyame Adom), we rush to claim them. Our own.
But where were we when it mattered?
This country er… hmm.
Sometimes it feels like Ghana doesn’t fail its youth by lack of talent, but by lack of imagination and courage to let them be.
