The Amasaman High Court has reduced the 15-year prison sentence handed to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa to 12 calendar months, ruling that the original punishment was harsh and excessive. The court, however, upheld her conviction, affirming that the offences for which she was found guilty warranted custodial punishment.
In delivering its decision, the court exercised its discretionary powers to vary the sentence imposed by the trial court, reducing it from 15 years of hard labour to a one-year term. The judges held that while the conviction was sound, the severity of the sentence was disproportionate when measured against the circumstances of the case.
The revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date of Nana Agradaa’s conviction, meaning she will serve a total of 12 months in prison. The ruling brings partial relief to the embattled evangelist, even as it reinforces the court’s position that her actions merited punishment under the law.
