New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed appreciation to his campaign team and key party stakeholders as provisional results from the party’s presidential primary place him in the lead with over 50% of the votes counted so far.
Speaking on Saturday, January 31, after results from several constituencies across the country began arriving at his office in Accra, Dr Bawumia described the contest as a fiercely contested nationwide campaign and attributed his strong showing to the collective efforts of his supporters.
“Let me thank all of you. We’ve gone through a journey. It’s been a fierce battle that we’ve waged across the country, across all the regions, and we couldn’t have gotten here without the support of the team around me,” he said.
He commended his campaign leadership, notably National Campaign Coordinator Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Campaign Manager Fred Opare Ansah, as well as Members of Parliament who supported his bid.
Dr Bawumia also expressed gratitude to NPP executives, the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media for their respective roles in ensuring a smooth and successful primary.
The former Vice President paid tribute to leading figures in the party’s history, including Prof. Adu Boahen, former President J.A. Kufuor, and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, noting that their leadership and sacrifices laid the foundation for the party’s growth.
“It is really humbling that I have been elected to continue the work they started,” he said, while also acknowledging the contributions of former Members of Parliament.
Provisional results from constituencies nationwide continue to place Dr Bawumia ahead of his competitors in key strongholds, with counting still ongoing across the country.
